Phase 01:

February 6 - February 18, 2022
6 masks created

“During the Covid shutdown, I felt a heavy need to return home and be with my family in the bronx, Ny. It had been 30 long years, but the reunion was everything I needed during a time of uncertainty.

After returning to Washington with my cup full, there was an intense urge to create. I ordered 6 masks without any clear creative direction - only the intent to bring a vision to life.

Once I opened the package of blank masks, I sat with them for a while. I took a moment to slow down and listen to the world around me - “be Brave” was the message I received FIRST.

I went forward, AND THE MORE I LISTENED, THE MORE MOTIVATIONAL MESSAGES I RECEIVED FOR THE Collection…”

Phase 02:

February 19, - February 21, 2022
2 Masks Created

“After seeing the results from the first 6, I came to the conclusion that i needed a total of 20 masks to complete the project.

2 sets of 10 that would illustrate the internal conflicts brought on to us by the pandemic. ‘to be, or not to be’ - a question worthy of consideration and action, provoked by the long look in the mirror during the quarantine era.”

Phase 03:

February 23, - february 28, 2022
4 Masks Created

“8 masks in, I knew I had successfully captured the first pieces of the vision - but needed to break away from the ‘be’ titles if I wanted to build on the momentum.

Music is very important to my creative process and as I began digging for a new source of inspiration, the song ‘Don’t stop til you get enough’ by Michael Jackson came to mind. A song with great energy that would give me a boost after a long month of self-reflection.

At this point, I decided the next 6 masks would carry inspirational messages from songs that resonated with the bigger picture of the project…”

Phase 04:

March 4, - March 16, 2022
4 Masks Created

“At this point, I began thinking about the movie, ‘The Mask’ starring Jim Carrey as Stanley Ipkiss. He was down and out, and didn’t have a sense of self - but when he first put on the mask, he was able to express himself without fear.

Yes, there were still consequences for his actions - and yes, he had to face those consequences once the mask was removed…

but his story embodies the true Balance of ‘To Be or Not To Be’. The thin line between the power of choice and the accountability of the hereafter.

The key lesson here was that we all must learn to navigate the polarity of our behaviors…”

Phase 05:

March 21, - March 24, 2022
2 Masks Created

“To BE, or Not To BE, takes risk and faith. either way, ACTION is required. Maintaining a curious and healthy state of mind will ensure the risks are calculated and actions are taken in good faith.”

Phase 06:

April 5, - April 9, 2022
Final 2 Masks created

“It was important that I closed out the project with universal messages to support folks in their journey of becoming. The road consists of the good, the bad, and the ugly - but the process builds us up to the best versions of self.

Never forget these two messages.”
